Only have a day to explore this beautiful Spanish island? This post has everything you need to know for a perfect 1 day in Palma de Mallorca itinerary.

Palma de Mallorca is the capital city of the island of Mallorca, which is a part of the beautiful Balearic Islands of Spain. The other Balearic islands include Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera.

These are the places worth visiting in Palma de Mallorca

  1. Catedral-Basílica de Santa María de Mallorca: This stunning Gothic-style cathedral is one of the most iconic landmarks of the city, with its impressive rose window and architecture. This is worth visiting and very visible from the harbour.  This is beautiful to photograph from the grounds or tickets can be bought to get a tour inside which cost between 9-25 euros.

2. Passeig des Born: Take a stroll down this beautiful tree-lined avenue which is home to some of the city’s most impressive buildings, including the recognisable La Llotja gothic building. This street also has a range of high street and designer shops so something fro everyone. If you are like me, you can spend a lot of time here. You might hear people call this elegant boulevard the ‘Golden Mile’.

3. Almudaina Palace: This historic palace dating back to the 14th century was once a residence for the Mallorcan monarchy and known to be used by Spanish royalty. Fortunately it is now open to the public for tours.

4. Old Town: Wonder around the Old Town and get lost in the charming streets of the city’s  hidden plazas, traditional buildings and local markets. This is where you get a real sense of Palma and there are many souvenir shops too where you can take a little token back home,

5. Banys Arabs Baths: These Arabic baths, which date back to the 10th century, are a fascinating glimpse into the city’s history. It is a great insight at how the wealthy arabs who lived in this historic part of Palma lived. It is also a short walk away from the Catherdral if you have time to visit it.

6. Bellver Castle: This impressive 14th-century castle is located on a hilltop which can be accesses by the hop on and off bus. It offers stunning views of the city and the sea. The views from here are epic and you can see the cruise ships in the distance. You can really appreciate and take in the view on the nearby benches.

7. Beaches: Palma de Mallorca has many beautiful beaches to choose from, including Cala Major, Playa de Palma and Es Trenc. Beaches in this region can be very calm and turquoise in colour. You can find white sand extending out towards the crystal clear sea, particularly at Es Trenc beach.

8. Visit the Es Baluard Museum: This contemporary art museum showcases the work of local and international artists and is located in a beautiful building overlooking the sea. If you are into your art and appreciate the art of known artists such as Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Joan Miro and Rebecca Horn… this is the place to visit.

9. Boat tour: See the city from a different perspective by taking a boat tour around the harbour and coastline. Appreciate the maritime history while soaking up stunning views of landmarks like the San Carlos fortress, Porto Pi lighthouse and Almudaina palace. Some boat tours also include Spanish tapas and drinks on board. If you are lucky and have longer to spend in Palmer, sunset sailings are epic.

10. Bike or Scooter Rentals: Palma de Mallorca can be seen well on rental bikes or scooters which can work out more affordable than taxis. This allows flexibility to see as much as you want and stop off where you want. When we went, getting a taxi around was long unless your were near the nub of it all. Make sure to have a portable charger for your phone if using rental apps.
