Spain

What can I expect from Spain

Spain is a destination that is hip and vibrant wherever you go. From it’s cultural festevals to luxurious coastal beaches and everything in between. There is something for everyone.  Its territory includes the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean and the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Madrid the capital city is a must visit as well as other major urban areas that make up Spain.

My fond memories travelling around Spain include a Road trip from England to Spain, various Barcelona holidays and cruises which stoped at smaller Spanish islands; Palma de Mallorca, Valencia and Malaga. This is a destination I want to keep going back to as there is so much more to explore and the weather is always fantastic. Even if that does mean aiming to hit the snow in Sierra Nevada, Formigal or Baqueira Beret.

trip to Greece was a 7-day Greek Islands cruise which stopped off at Mykonos and Santorini.

TIPS WHEN TRAVELLING

Accommodation – Accommodation in Spain ranges from affordable stays to luxury. Travellers also have the option of funky hostels dotted around the city. There are many hotels in Barcelona some can be a bit pricier, especially in the high season. In many of the smaller and mid-size cities, you’ll find a range of accommodation options where airbnb can help to find those homely stays.

Food – Spanish times consist of 10am breakfast, 2pm lunch and dinner around 10pm. Keep this in mind when looking for restaurants at earlier times. Indulge in small plate tapas and paella in Spain.

Transportation – The transportation system in Spain is efficient and affordable, and you can easily get around larger cities using public transportation. Renfe trains operates commuter to high-speed long-distance trains. There are also buses that connects the city very well.

Suggested Daily Budget – 40-50 EUR

MONEY SAVING TIPS

1
Plan Ahead Pre book your stay and transport as far in advance as you can to lock in the price. Especially if you are staying in very busy and touristy areas.
2
Take the Train Take the metro or the train to travel around Spain as the ticket prices are very reasonable. Even to get from the airport to the city, I would recommend taking the train.
3
Avoid July + August This time of the month is always heavily populated and busy with children out of school due to the European holidays at that time.
4
Avoid Eating at Tourist Traps Compare the menus that are outside of the restaurants and avoid tourist traps that charge you way more for your food than you should. Have locals recommend their favourite spots.
