WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM Cruising?

Cruising is a great opportunity to visit multiple destinations whilst on a moving hotel with all inclusive food, pools, activities and so much more. I was fortunate to experience my first ever cruise and since then I cannot stop recommending it to everyone. I definitely want to share that cruises are not just for retired couples but in fact there is something for everyone of all ages. I will share the experience I had and what I would recommend for couples travel, girls trips and also what would be a perfect family and solo travel experience.

A good place to start would be 10 things to note for your first ever cruise.

Things to consider before booking a cruise

Budget
Duration
Ports of Call
Departure & Arrival Location
Cabin Preference
Who is it for? Couple/Solo/Family

Currency: The currency can be purchased easily on the ship mainly in Euros or USD’s.

Credit Cards and ATMs: There are ATMs on most ships, some more than others. Most likely they charge a slight premium for withdrawals so do compare with ATM’s off the ship.

Plugs: Depending of which cruises you sail on will determine which plug socks are available. An example is P&O have mainly UK plugs with USBs etc and Royal Caribbean has more US plug outlets.

Safety: Cruise ships are very safe with their extensive cameras on board. However, always be cautious with your valuables making sure not to leave them for long periods.

THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE BOOKING A CRUISE

Budget – Cruises can range from budget-friendly to luxury experiences. Determine your comfort level upfront. Consider hidden costs like gratuities, shore excursions, and speciality dining. Many lines offer all-inclusive packages for ultimate budgeting ease.

Duration – Cruise durations vary greatly, from weekend getaways to multi-month adventures. Consider your time constraints and desired pace. Longer cruises offer diverse destinations, while shorter cruises are ideal for first-timers or those seeking a quick escape.

Ports of Call – The magic of cruising lies in exploring new destinations! Research potential itineraries and ports of call. Do these destinations align with your interests and bucket list? Consider the amount of time spent at each port to determine if shore excursions are necessary.

Departure & Arrival Location – Embarkation and disembarkation locations significantly impact your travel experience. Factor in flight costs and travel time from your desired departure city to the cruise port. Round-trip cruises offer added convenience.

Cabin Preference – Your cabin is your sanctuary at sea. Choose an oceanview or balcony cabin for stunning vistas, or prioritize an interior cabin for a more budget-friendly option. Consider cabin size, especially when travelling with family or desiring extra space.

Who is it for? Couple/Solo/Family – Cruises cater to various demographics. Couples cruises offer romantic getaways, while family-friendly cruises boast kids’ clubs and activities. Solo cruisers can find dedicated social spaces and solo activities for a fulfilling experience.

The average cruise ship sails the equivalent of three times around the world each year.

MONEY SAVING TIPS

1
Off Season Picking an off season cruise itinerary will work out cheaper so this is often times when children are in school. This was great on Wonder of the Seas as there were no queues for the carousel.
2
Don't select your specific room When booking you can save £££ by letting the travel company select your deck and room within your preferred category eg balcony or inside cabin.
3
Carry your fave drinks In accordance with your cruise line you will be allowed to carry your own drinks in your case up to a certain amount eg 12 cans. This is your chance to carry drinks you can keep in your room fridge.
4
Eat Lunch on the ship Before embarking the ship do not fill your belly but wait until onboard and head straight to the food court. Thank me later.

By considering these tips and key factors, you'll be well on your way to booking the perfect cruise for your budget, interests, and travel style. Now, bon voyage and happy sailing!
